Tips on Managing Screen-Time
Technology is currently becoming a huge tool for our kids to learn and interact with friends. We are facing a new normal and can manage screen-time as a family with these tips
Be Realistic
Come to terms with the fact that your kids may be spending more time in front of their screens. Some schools are utilizing technology to make learning accessible for their students.
Revisit Screen-Time Rules
Kids are doing school work online and socializing via screen is practicing safe social distancing. Have a conversation with your family about ways you will all be using screens moving forward. Understand Socialization is Important
Kids are craving socialization while being told to practice social distancing. This lack of socialization can be hard for adults too. Our kids are missing their regular social interactions. Technology is allowing them to stay connected in these ways:
- Facetiming with friends or family
- Talking through group texts
- Sharing funny and positive content with each other
- Playing games together
- Setting up a Google Hangout or Zoom meeting to stay in touch with friends, family, and classmates
- There are even these activities to do for our little ones
Continue Monitoring Devices
Model Appropriate Screen-time Use
It’s still important to check in on what your kids are doing on their devices. Encourage them to use devices in common spaces, or keep the door open.
- Block out time to work
- Commit to family meals being a screen-free zone
- Take breaks from your screens
