Kids Out of School? How to Develop a Routine
Procured by Erin Grady
Children thrive on routine. Being home from school can make things feel unpredictable. Schedules can help keep things predictable while you’re home with the kids. If you’re wondering how to keep a loose routine while social distancing here are some ideas! Mommyhood101 gives you a template so you can really make these schedules your own!
Schedules are cool, but remember it’s okay when things don’t always go as planned. It’s easy for us to tell ourselves that, but how do you convey that idea to a child? A lot of little ones don’t fully understand what is going on in regards to COVID-19. One phrase that you can use to help explain when things aren’t going as planned is “It’s a zig-zag day”. When you use the phrase often kids will begin to understand “Ok, this might not be a typical day for me.” We use this phrase in the classroom when we have to switch up our classroom routine. This helps the kids prepare their minds in their own way that today is going to look a little different!
